Scope of Work
Upstream PS were engaged by Origin Energy to project manage, plan and execute all construction activities for the SOLO Well head Separator Conversion project from March to October 2020. This was the first time that Origin Energy had the requirements to remove an existing SOLO wellsite metering skid package and replace it with a Phase 1 gas/water separator package to assist in liberating higher production rates.
The Scope of work consisted of:
- The removal of separator packages from technically challenged leases
- Modification of the used Phase 1 Separator Skids
- Removal of SOLO skids and piping from upgraded leases
- Electrical and mechanical installation of upgraded Phase 1 Separator Skid including excavation, HDPE gathering changes and leak testing up to C2 pre-commissioning stage on the upgraded leases
- Preservation of SOLO skids and piping
During the early planning stage, our team invested considerable time collaborating with the client’s field operation leads and permit authorities. This resulted in a more efficient isolation process and reduced the number of permits and isolation certificates for each stage of the demolition and construction process. Pre-planning site walks were completed along with a detailed kickoff meeting to ensure all stakeholders were aligned with HSE, QA and execution schedules and expectations.
One of the key drivers on the project was to create a lean construction model that would reduce wellsite downtime and provide maximum production uplift. The reduced wellsite downtime also contributed to lower construction costs and reduced risk for well start up.
This was a first-time project for both Origin Energy and Upstream PS. The need to excavate the existing gathering system and relocate this to suit the upgraded gathering risers resulted in large trenches that created unexpected risks for the construction team. A measured approach allowed the team to step back and develop an improved construction method to eliminate the large trench and open excavation risks. This approach and productive collaboration with the Origin Operations team also provided continuous learnings and efficiencies throughout the project.
